One of the most authentic Thai food I can get in New Zealand which is tasty. It is situated in the heart of Parnell and called Blue Elephant. The reason being is the location of the restaurant; used to be an elephant farm for the Auckland Zoo. Recently, the first elephant that was raised in Parnell passed away. :(
The restaurant is very cozy and well decorated. I really fancy their decorations, ambiance and the blue coloured elephants on the counter. Sadly, I didn't have photos of the restaurant but I will surely visit them again, because they are really friendly and service everyone equally. I went there for lunch with Cheryn during her lunch break on one of the fairest day in Auckland.
The cutlery on the tables are exquisite, with carved patterns in the cutlery (no photo again). First impression of the restaurant was great, like I said before it was very well decorated. Because it was lunch time, we decided to try their lunch special menu. I ordered the stir fried beef with basil and chili while Cheryn ordered her all time favourite dish - tomyum chicken soup with sticky rice. You can have the option of choosing sticky rice or jasmine rice. But with sticky rice, I reckon you have to pay extra $1.
The overall presentation of the dishes was very beautiful. And I would recommend to try the tomyum, because the taste is very close to authentic tomyum. As my dish, it was great too. Nothing fancy but it was stir fried well and the vegetables were not over cooked, so as the beef.
If you just want to try our the dishes, I would recommend going there for lunch with the special prices. During dinner time, it will be full price and perhaps slightly pricey.
